About us
Our short story in a nutshell
We started from the garage, as we should
Goodwill-Trade was created from scratch, in the blink of an eye. In 1993, we walked through the doors of a law firm in Hajdúböszörmény with the goal of designing and manufacturing Special Purpose Machines. Firmly, I mean. There were machines back then and some of them were good. But we were motivated by the idea that we could do it ourselves.
We picked up experience like a magnet picks up iron filings. Very quickly. Over the years we encountered more and more unexpected things and difficulties, which we always treated as a task to be solved. We were like, well, we’ll just have to jump this one.
Our small garage company, with 4 people on board, contract manufactured machines and serviced vacuum pumps for General Electric’s domestic factories. Sure, it took a job under the stars, but by the turn of the millennium, we boasted our own manufacturing facility. In the meantime, team numbers had soared and we were on the point of needing to spread 22 people for the end-of-year party at the beef stew.
With a patent in the back pocket
This respect and dedication to the profession was not only reflected in the business results. By 2005, we had two patents and thus Goodwill-Trade was already a patent holder. We obtained patent protection for the helium leak tester of refrigerators.
To infinity and beyond
Just when we thought we couldn’t get any higher, the news came that the new destination with the parts was the Galaxy. We also needed a guidebook, because until then we had only experienced weightlessness in the thermal waters of the Bocskai Spa in Hajdúböszörmény.
Our company’s founder and former CEO, György Oláh, started to establish close relations with materials science and space research institutes in Hungary a couple of decades ago, and in 2009 we were asked to be a supplier for a large-scale space project. It was an incredible pride for us. It’s still exciting to think that parts that came out of our hands were used in experiments on the International Space Station.
Since then we have had several space projects. The one we are most proud of is the one we created with Admatis Ltd, for the Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellites. A special manufacturing technology was also developed as part of the joint R&D project. The machined parts we produced are still orbiting in space and doing their job.
On the CHEOPS satellite, which was launched in 2019, the radiator protecting the thermal components of the satellite was supplied by Goodwill-Trade Ltd.
After expanding vertically into space, we also started to expand horizontally. Our export activities now extend to many European countries, with Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany and France on our list of partners. That doesn’t mean, of course, that we haven’t looked inwards.
Designed for the long term
We are committed to continuous improvement and development. We now have our own measuring laboratory equipped with a 3D coordinate measuring machine and a 6 axis portable measuring arm where we can carry out micron precise measurements. Along with the machines, our ERP system has also evolved, ensuring traceability of orders and production, and co-ordination of staff work.
We have been working with our biggest customers since the beginning, which perhaps shows how we treat our partners and customers. There is no big secret about it. We give what we would expect in reverse.
Heartwarming
In 2015, we received an Innovation Award from the Hajdú-Bihar County Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the development of a manufacturing technology for satellite parts used in the space industry. A few years later, we created a vacuum furnace system for Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd for Applied Research, which was also recognised at the Hungarian Innovation Grand Prix.
A hand-made component or Special Purpose Machine is like a bottle of fine wine for a winemaker. You can hold it in your hands, look at it, ponder over it. Then pass it on to do good service elsewhere. We are proud of what we have achieved and excited to compete in new professional challenges.
How do we work?
We go forward as a family
Our colleagues have typically been with us for 10 years, but the professional hard core has been with us since the start, spanning more than 25 years. We are a true family business and we are very proud that two of our mechanical engineers hold internationally protected patents.
Humane cooperations
Our supplier network focuses on strategic partnerships. Most of them we have been working with for years. It’s essential to know that whatever happens, our suppliers will always meet the quality and deadlines that we represent to our customers.
We don’t sell a pig in a poke
If we feel that we cannot do something by the deadline, we will be upfront about this when we make the offer. We will also tell you when we are sure we can commit to the project.
